Connecting people and issues for community-led change

Advocacy

SALT Alliance seeks to promote transformational advocacy which it defines as follows:
“The process of challenging ourselves and our leaders to change behaviour, policies, and attitudes that perpetuate inequality and deny God’s will for human flourishing.”
Current advocacy topics that SALT Alliance members are working on include:

1.       Child birth certificate registration
2.       Women understanding their rights
3.       Rights and responsibilities for good health
4.       Child protection and safety
5.       Protection and rights of widows

Advocating for the care of widows

Picture
TransWorld Radio South Africa recently undertook research into the challenges that widows in rural KwaZulu-Natal face. Their findings have been published both in South Africa and internationally: widows in South Africa are a vulnerable people group. Further research by other SALT Alliance members corroborates this study.

Advocating for stateless children

Picture
The SA Dept of Education is insisting that all children must have valid ID documents to attend school as from 1 January 2016. SALT Alliance Member Thembalethu Nkomazi reports that many children in the region of Nkomazi are being denied access to education (a violation of their basic human rights) and have thus become "stateless".
